How Phillips Ranch was Born
Phillips Ranch was founded from a deeply personal journey of loss, love, and hope. Its name honors the memory of Phil, my brother, whose life was tragically cut short in the 1980s due to AIDS contracted from sharing needles during his heroin addiction. Phil never knew sobriety, spending much of his adult life in and out of prison as his addiction consumed him. As a child, my relationship with him was limited to moments behind bars, yet even through those barriers, our bond was profound.
Phil’s struggle and untimely passing planted the seeds for my life’s work—helping others overcome the grip of addiction and reclaim their lives. For over two decades, I worked in residential treatment, dedicating myself to guiding individuals through their own healing journeys. Along the way, I helped other treatment centers establish themselves, always carrying the vision of one day creating my own place of healing.
That vision became reality with the founding of Phillips Ranch, with the amazing support from her husband Robert and a team of professionals with a shared vision. Our 20 acres of serene Northern Idaho land, the center blends evidence-based therapies with Native American healing practices to treat substance use and mental health challenges holistically. The name “Phillips Ranch” represents not only Phil’s story but also the countless individuals seeking a path to healing, reminding them that they are not alone in their struggles.
At Phillips Ranch, we believe that healing starts from the inside out, and our programs are designed to guide clients toward self-awareness, balance, and wholeness. This center stands as a tribute to my brother’s memory and as a beacon of hope for others, offering a place where healing, growth, and transformation are possible for all who walk through our doors.
